Public Talks in April and May 2009

APRIL 12 - In bits and pieces of time in between trying to deal with the meltdown of the North American auto industry, I will be giving several more public talks based on Economics for Everyone in several Canadian cities over the next few weeks.  Here are the details ... hope to see you there!

CALGARY, WEDNESDAY APRIL 22:  Two talks sponsored by the Arusha Centre and several community partners (call 403-270-3200 for info).  Tickets $10 for each event.

12:00 noon, Parkdale United Church (2919 8 Ave. NW)

7:00 pm, Arusha Centre, Old "Y" (223 12 Ave. SW)

EDMONTON, THURSDAY APRIL 23:  I will be speaking to the convention of the Alberta Federation of Labour at 3:15 pm, in the main convention room at the Crowne Plaza Chateau Lacombe (10111 Bellamy Hill).

Then, at 7:30 pm in Salon C at the same hotel, we'll have a public book launch for e4e, complete with reception.

OTTAWA, SATURDAY MAY 9:  I am the keynote speaker at the annual fund-raising banquet for Canadian Dimension magazine, at the National Library and Archives (395 Wellington St.).  The event begins at 5:30 pm with a reception, then a sit-down dinner at 6:30.  TIckets are $50, all proceeds to this fine progressive publication.  Call 613-728-7980 for tickets and information.

LONDON, ONT., TUESDAY MAY 12:  I will be speaking at the University of Western Ontario at 4:30 pm, hosted by the UWO Staff Association.  I'll talk about the economic crisis and how it is affecting universities -- not least because of the meltdown of these insane "endowment" funds which (in a cheap imitation of Ivy League practice) universities like UWO jumped into with both feet.  Call 519-661-3028 for room details and further information.

WINDSOR, FRIDAY MAY 22:  I am coming back to Windsor, hosted by the Social Justice Conference of the United Church of Canada, speaking at 2:00 pm.

HALIFAX, MONDAY MAY 25:  I will speak to the annual bargaining conference of the Canadian Teachers' Federation, at 9:15 am, at the Delta Halifax Hotel, on the economic crisis and the alternatives.
