JUNE 14 2008: The first launch event for Economics for Everyone was held in Toronto on June 12, and it was a roaring success. Over 100 people attended -- about half were delegates from the just-concluded CAW convention (wearing the red 'Made in Canada Matters' t-shirts that we've all been wearing in solidarity with the GM blockade in Oshawa), the other half from the broader community. There was a great spirit in the room. I'm convinced that progressives from all walks of life will really get excited about the potential for economic change, if the ideas and alternatives are presented in a pragmatic, matter-of-fact manner.
Many thanks to all those who attended!
Here are some links arising from the Toronto launch event:
Click here for an awesome photo montage of the event, prepared by Toronto labour photographer John MacLennan. (Visit John's site here to see more of his work - he's also a great designer for those looking for that type of service.)
Here's a short who's-who guide to the wonderful people in the photo montage.
Here's the link to a downloadable MP3 file containing my entire lecture that night, courtesy of the fine folks at rabble.ca who taped the whole thing. (Warning: the file is 70 MB! I guess I ran on a bit too long! So much for it being a SHORT guide to the economics of capitalism.)
Here's a pdf file of the powerpoint show that accompanied my talk, in case you want to follow along with the MP3 file.
Next launch is in Ottawa June 23. Then I'll be doing some public speaking around Canada this fall. The rest of the world will have to wait just a while longer!
